Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing (MLNLP)

Machine Learning (ML) is the subfield of Artificial Intelligence that gives computers the ability to learn and automate problem-solving and task execution, such as data classification, pattern recognition, anomaly detection, and dimensionality reduction. Natural Language Processing (NLP) is a subarea of Artificial Intelligence that aims to develop resources, tools, and systems capable of processing natural languages such as Portuguese and English. In recent years, with the accelerated growth in the volume of data stored in digital media, ML and PLN have been targets of great interest, both commercially and in research. AM and NLP, associated with other areas such as Data Science and Deep Learning, are state-of-the-art in solving many problems in different application domains, such as health, agribusiness, politics, social media, and e-commerce. Its application allows us to improve computational methods for challenging tasks that require intelligence automatically, that is, they can learn from data, identify patterns and assist in decision making from automatic market segmentation and treatment discovery for new diseases to automatic generation of texts and reading comprehension.
